Leave the Past Where It Belongs

In the past.

I write what I most have to learn, sure is great being human. Recently I got sucked into the past and its drama big time. Has that ever happened to you?

I realized it was just another test. I could live in joy in the now or time travel to the past and be a whiny sad victim - helpless. Sigh. I was whiny for 72 hours and then went “huh?”

I took my power back and came back to the present. “I AM doing well. Yeah!

Woo-hoo. Perhaps the past drama created my wonderful present?”

I think I’ll run with that thought. It is all a gift.

Where There Are People

There is drama. We can’t help ourselves.

I know I still make up stories, project my “stuff” and get triggered by what others’ said and did. And 99% of the times, there was no malicious intent, just my wounds of the past being ripped open.

What’s my point? Stop making up stories, do not make assumptions, seek clarity and have a big laugh.

It’s all a test. It’s all learning. It’s life.

Oh, what a beautiful life it is!

With that in mind and knowing my last communication with someone might be my last, I am consciously choosing in 2013 to conclude every communication constructively and positively, even the difficult conversations I have as an executive coach and as a person.

With this simple choice and conviction, I will live greater with less regrets.

Ready for a Challenge?

I love it when people give me challenges. They tend to make be more awake, more aware and stronger.

I was given the following challenge:

“For the next week, don’t say anything unkind, untrue or unnecessary.”

I actually did okay with the “unkind” and “untrue.” I have been consciously working on those for quite a while as an executive coach and to personally stop my old limiting mental patterns.

“Unnecessary” was not so good. I became aware of how often I give unsolicited advice instead of just listening – being there. It was very humbling.

I challenge you to try the exercise and to become more aware of your communications. Good luck!

Keeping Score?

Keeping score does not make for a great leader or for a great life. I know. I use to keep score big time. And guess what? It created a huge amount of stress, unmet expectations and heartburn. Where’s the Alka Sheltzer?

I finally had the a-ha that keeping score was not only petty but unfair. Unfair since I had not vocalized my expectations, shared my thoughts or established the rules of the game.
